The NGO Educo organized this Friday, December 16, 2022 in Ouagadougou, a capacity building workshop for media personnel on issues related to the protection and right to education of children and adolescents. This activity was also intended to present the areas of intervention and the safeguarding and child protection policy of the NGO to the participants in order to increase its visibility.
For 24 hours, the work took place through communications followed by exchanges and sharing of experiences. The participants, who came from several localities in the country, thus benefited from a presentation of Educo through the policies that frame its activities in the field, in particular the policy and the code of conduct for the good treatment of children and adolescents, the charter, the partnership policy and guide.“We have organized this framework to exchange with journalists on our mission, our positions, our values in order to make our actions visible through a certain number of themes or cross-cutting policies such as child protection and all that has related to harassment in the workplace” recalled Tibo Kabré, the objectives of the meeting. He is the program quality coordinator for Educo Burkina/Niger.
It should be noted that the participants were also equipped with an interview guide to support their production on issues involving children and adolescents. This guide is intended as a consultation and orientation tool for the application of children’s rights in interviews.
At the end of the work, Coordinator Kabré urged journalists to support Educo in the visibility of its interventions in education, protection and capacity building for young people. Also, he invited them to be ambassadors of the NGO to relay all that it does in terms of positioning relating to the protection and safeguarding of children.
The participants positively appreciated the holding of this meeting. For the Director of the radio station “La voix du paysan” in Ouahigouya, Adama Sougouri, this training will allow them to be in tune with the intervention policies of the NGO and the rights of protection and education of children. Also, the participants will be able to share the knowledge acquired with their collaborators in order to be able to make good journalistic productions with the children in compliance with Educo’s intervention policy.
As a reminder, Educo is a Spanish foundation for cooperation and education intervening in both development and emergency contexts. It is present in 15 countries. Existing in Burkina Faso since 2004, it operates mainly in three areas. These are education, child protection against all forms of violence and exploitation and capacity building for young people through professional training. In 2022, the NGO piloted 18 projects with a total budget of more than 3 billion FCFA. These actions have made it possible to reach more than 500,000 children and young people.
